A central topic: the SouthH2 Corridor, a 3,300-kilometre hydrogen pipeline connecting North Africa to Southern Germany via Italy and Carinthia. This major infrastructure project aims to ensure a reliable, cross-border supply of green hydrogen for European industry and mobility.
Carinthia is preparing to benefit from its strategic location. Alongside international developments, plans are underway to build a regional hydrogen distribution network, connecting local businesses and industrial zones directly to the European pipeline. The concept builds on existing infrastructure, repurposing parts of the current gas grid.
The Carinthian energy provider KNG is already working on a “Startnetz” – a hydrogen entry network for the region. Once integrated into Austria’s national grid plan, it would mark a major milestone toward local hydrogen accessibility.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to drive innovation, energy independence and industrial transformation — with Carinthia positioned as both a transit hub and a regional energy distributor.
