A forward-thinking approach to tourism
Austria’s southernmost province has long been popular with holidaymakers and has successfully made the transition from a 19th-century summering resort to a modern-day tourism destination that places an emphasis on outdoor activities. This success is due to the many hotels, restaurants and leisure operators in the region.

Hotel am See Die Forelle
The excellent Hotel Die Forelle on the shores of Lake Millstätter See in Carinthia is proud of its 140-year history. The hotel was originally founded as “Forellenheim” (“Forelle” means “trout”) by the Bacher family, professional fishermen who were known beyond the borders of Carinthia and even supplied the imperial court in Vienna with their fish. Today, the four-star hotel is run by the third generation of the Aniwanter family. Throughout its long history, the Forelle has never stood still. Its vision has always been to become the best hotel in town, carrying forth the family tradition with passion and care, and adapting it to the requirements and expectations of today’s guests.
A courageous, forward-looking approach
To remain successful and steadily grow a business requires inventiveness, passion and commitment. Managing Director Stefanie Aniwanter, who feels privileged to have taken over the reins from her parents, is living proof of this. Her goal is to make the hotel into a year-round operation, with a focus on sustainable processes and structures. The hotel is located directly on the shores of Lake Millstätter See, measures 3,000 square metres and has 120 beds as well as a 70 square-metre wellness area. A unique feature is the hotel’s own fishing area that measures 120 hectares. The hotel’s family atmosphere is its key asset, both for staff and guests. Quite a few celebrities have stayed here over the years, for instance British rock band Deep Purple.

Seminarhotel eduCare
Investing in the future
The eduCare hotel and conference centre in Treffen on the shores of Lake Ossiacher See currently registers 20,000 overnight stays a year. The hotel is run by the Bodner-Buchacher family of entrepreneurs. Due to the region’s potential, it was extended in the first half of 2019, with an overall investment of four million Euro. Two storeys were added to the building, bringing the total number of rooms from 51 to 73. All of the rooms, just like all the other areas of the hotel, are 100 percent accessible.
Carinthian conference hotel in a top location
From the four-star hotel, it is just a short walk to Lake Ossiacher See and the valley station of Gerlitzen mountain is a mere 800 metres away. It is thus only natural that its first focus lies on active holidaymakers, with seminars, meetings and conferences a close second. The hotel has room for up to 400 attendees and offers state-of-the-art equipment and excellent support services, for instance a personal seminar guide.
