Carinthia as an educational location: Training and further education with excellent prospects
Modern opportunities and practical learning from apprenticeship to university
From the first day of school to graduation from university, from apprenticeship to professional qualification: education in Carinthia is personal and practical. Individual support, strong practical relevance and an environment that combines nature and internationalism characterise both teaching and learning in Austria’s southernmost province.
Some examples: around 90 study programmes at the University of Klagenfurt and Carinthia University of Applied Sciences link academic depth with career opportunities. As part of the dual vocational education, around 80% of the apprenticeship period takes place directly in the company. Multilingualism is enshrined in law, and students from almost 100 countries enrich Carinthia as an educational location, making it a place of openness, diversity and international connection.

In its recent past, Carinthia has taken several steps to ensure that the province will be able to keep pace with the rapidly changing employment market of the future. The Province of Carinthia promotes dual training schemes, which need to be adapted and optimised at an ever-faster pace. In conjunction with business and educational players, Carinthia has invested in inter-company as well as supra-company teaching workshops for entirely new, promising job profiles. The education and training model “Lehre mit Matura” is based on students completing an apprenticeship after gaining their secondary school leaving certificate and is thus an important contribution towards lifelong learning.
