Carinthia connects to global data highways with ALPSiX
Carinthia is taking a major step toward becoming a digital hub in the Alps-Adriatic region with ALPSiX – the region‘s first Internet Exchange Point (IXP).
Starting in 2026, Carinthia will have direct access to global data highways, significantly boosting its digital infrastructure, visibility, and competitiveness.
Strategic Investment & Regional Leadership: A new high-speed fiber ring will connect Klagenfurt‘s Lakeside Park and Villach‘s High Tech Campus, with additional connections through the Rosental and along the motorway. This €1.6 million investment creates a direct link to international data routes and secures connectivity for key locations like the Villach-Fürnitz Logistics Center.
Driving Digital Performance: ALPSiX will enable fast, secure, and independent data exchange without detours through Vienna or Frankfurt. This significantly reduces latency, strengthens data security, and improves resilience. Industries relying on real-time data – from autonomous mobility to healthcare and digital business models – will benefit from this competitive edge.
A Strong Foundation for Growth: Operated by Breitbandinfrastruktur Kärnten (BIK) as a neutral and independent entity, ALPSiX ensures fair access for all players – from local businesses to global tech companies. Carinthia positions itself as a future-proof location for companies, research, and innovation in the digital economy.
