The St. Veit district, covering 1,494 square kilometres, is the most important hub of the Central Carinthia region. The Hirt private brewery is one of the oldest breweries in Austria. It was first mentioned in 1270 in the Gurk cathedral chapter’s property register. The brewery has been in the hands of the current owner’s family since 1846 and is now run by Klaus Möller and Nikolaus Riegler in the fifth and sixth generations. Carinthia’s oldest brewery is therefore still family-owned and has supra-regional appeal thanks to its high brand awareness. The Hirt brewery is expressly committed to tradition, regionality, the best raw materials, craftsmanship and a passion for brewing. Hirter beer is enjoyed throughout Austria and the entire Alpine-Adriatic region, as well as in the United States.
The Chamber of Commerce district office in St. Veit/Glan brings the concentrated service and know-how of the Chamber of Commerce Carinthia to your doorstep. The tasks of the district office include, among other things, active interest-driven politics with the aim of improving the economic framework, addressing regional political issues, ensuring member-oriented services and representing and safeguarding the interests its members.
Innovation is often created by rethinking time-honoured traditions and perfecting craftsmanship. Central Carinthia is home to a variety of traditional trades and agricultural treasures that are refined directly by chefs and gourmet artisans in the region. So it was only logical that the region became the third in Carinthia to embrace the Slow Food concept in 2021 and, under the umbrella brand Slow Food Travel, allows guests and locals alike to participate in the daily activities of producers and refiners. The LEADER region of Central Carinthia comprises 34 municipalities and over 100,000 inhabitants, making it one of the larger Local Action Groups (LAGs) in Carinthia promoting rural development and aiming to improve the quality of life in the region. One important means is handling LEADER funding from the EU, federal, provincial and municipal funding pots. In addition, the employees of Regionalmanagement Mittelkärnten try to provide the impetus for important investment in the region by networking or combining with other funding opportunities.
Diverse training programmes lay the foundation for the skilled workforce of tomorrow. There is the right educational selection for all stages of life here – from primary schools to vocational training institutions, grammar schools and secondary schools. Due to its proximity to Klagenfurt, St. Veit/Glan is ideally placed for the start of an academic career at Klagenfurt University, Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and the University of Teacher Education. St. Veit/Glan is in the fortunate position of being able to offer its citizens a dense network of medical specialists, general practitioners and alternative practitioners.
