Wooden wind turbines made in Carinthia
The Carinthian company Hasslacher focuses on expansion, investments in their locations and innovations such as wind turbines made of wood. The wind turbines are expected to supply electricity in Germany for the first time in 2024.
One of the most exciting new projects of the Hasslacher Holding GmbH is the construction of towers for wind turbines made of wood. For twelve years, the Hasslacher subsidiary Green Tower and a research network have been developing a hybrid tower made of wood and steel, which consists largely of laminated beams and has to withstand enormous forces.
Such a wooden tower with a hub height of 137 meters not only weighs much less than a steel tower (300 tons instead of 1000 tons), it also saves 1000 tons of CO₂ in the production process.
“Millions of euros” have flowed into the project development, says CEO Kulterer, who also sees great opportunities for Carinthia because they produce the towers on site from local wood.
