New Beginnings
What are your plans for 2022? Perhaps you have a glorious business idea in store? Did you know, Carinthia has already provided many young start-ups with a springboard to international success.
“Tag” 2021 and you might come up with the following: “new challenges”, “new faces”, “new places” – overall – plenty of change. All these issues most likely continue to be in the mix for 2022, especially if you are an entrepreneur, investor or start-up. Speaking of which: Perhaps you have a wonderful business idea in store? Perhaps you want to start your business here in Carinthia? You should!
Thanks to its location in the Alps-Adriatic region, Carinthia is an extremely interesting entry point for companies wishing to expand into the DACH countries, i.e., Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Austria’s southernmost region has already provided many young start-ups with a springboard to international success – and not just because the business environment offers fertile ground for new ventures. The region also boasts a network of ambitious public agencies and institutions who work hard at providing advice and support for anyone wishing to found a company or invest in Carinthia. That’s why those who start up here are in pole position to achieve their goals.

Projects with Potential
But here is the thing: It takes a lot of courage to make the leap into self-employment. What else? What makes a business idea successful you may wonder?
Do you know, what mindset entrepreneurs and start-ups need to have? Last year, we asked Alexander Mann. We also asked Head of build! and now Head of Silicon Alps Cluster, Robert Gfrerer about the distinguishing characteristics of innovative start-ups. “Innovative start-ups”, said Gfrerer, “are characterised by a strong team in which the key competencies are spread among the founding team. As regards “tech content” it depends on whether the project is still just an idea or a technology or innovation that has already been tested.”
Four times a year, start-up teams can apply by pitch for admission to one of the build! support programmes (early-stage or growth programme). The Start-Up Centre build! uses the internationally recognised mTRL model, the Market & Technology Readiness Level Model, which defines ten stages of development. “If your idea has reached the status of a “working prototype,” Gfrerer underlined, “then build! is the right place for you”.
So, what are your plans for 2022? If you have not been ready to start a business 2021, you may decide to start it now. Carinthia is a great place to start your own business! Find out MORE
